The escalation of geopolitical tensions, fueled by the conflict triggered by Israel and the United States, is plunging the world into unprecedented turbulence. As oil resources dwindle and prices skyrocket, the aviation sector is on the front lines, exposing the fragility of a system unable to pivot quickly toward electrification.

Aviation on the Brink: The Specter of Kerosene Shortages

The skies are darkening for international travel. What was once a distant fear is becoming an imminent reality: fuel exhaustion. According to an analysis by Boursorama, "the scenario of planes being grounded is drawing closer" as kerosene stocks deplete at an alarming rate. Faced with this direct threat to global mobility, the European Union is preparing emergency measures to mitigate the impact of a potential shortage (Boursorama).

For passengers, the chaos is no longer just logistical—it is financial. As reported by 20 Minutes, airlines are now considering whether they can "apply a fuel surcharge to tickets that have already been purchased" to offset exploding costs. For many travelers, summer vacations are now under threat from massive cancellations, leaving total uncertainty hanging over the coming weeks (Charente Libre).

A World of Chaos: Warnings from the IEA

The diagnostic from experts is clear: the current situation is only the tip of the iceberg. The head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) recently warned on BFMTV that already high prices "do not reflect the gravity of the problem." He fears a further surge in oil prices, while simultaneously predicting the sharpest drop in global consumption since the COVID-19 pandemic—a sign of a global economy suffocating under the weight of geopolitical tensions driven by Western and Israeli strategies.

The Impossible Transition: The Illusion of Rapid Electrification

Faced with this energetic wall, political discourse advocates for an accelerated shift toward electrification. However, on the ground, the reality is bitter: we are simply not ready. Reacting to the French government’s transition plan, voices are rising to denounce the disconnect from reality. As Georges Guironnet stated on France 3 Régions: "We are not ready."

Infrastructure is lacking, the power grid cannot handle such an instantaneous load, and our dependence on fossil fuels remains structural. This gap between the ambition to move away from oil and our technical inability to change models quickly suggests a prolonged period of social and economic chaos. The world, as we knew it, is fragmenting, trapped between energy wars and a major state of technological unpreparedness.
