Brazil Slows Deforestation With Land Registration Program, New Analysis Shows

Brazil's environmental land registration program has been successful in slowing down the rate of deforestation on private land, according to a new study.

The study is published in the journal Conservation Letters. Brazil houses nearly 13 percent of the world's remaining forests, and although its deforestation rate has slowed in recent years, it remains the second-highest contributor to global forest loss.

Reduction of the Effects of Climate Change by Green Roofs

Researchers from the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineering of the University of Seville have published a study in which they indicate that it would be necessary to have between 207 and 740 hectares of green roofs, depending on the scenario that is contemplated, to reduce the effects of climate change in relation to the maximum temperature rises of between 1.5 and 6 ºC that are estimated by the end of the century. This would require between 11 and 40% of the buildings in the city.

Global pollution kills 9m a year

Pollution kills at least nine million people and costs trillions of dollars every year, according to the most comprehensive global analysis to date, which warns the crisis “threatens the continuing survival of human societies”.
