Doctors Without Borders (MSF) announced on Friday it has suspended all medical activities in Gaza City due to intensified Israeli attacks that made operations “impossible.” In a statement, the organization said its clinics are now under siege by Israeli forces, forcing a halt to services despite the “immense humanitarian needs.”
The MSF emergency coordinator in Gaza, Jacob Granger, said that the escalating Israeli bombardment has placed MSF personnel at direct risk, compelling the organization to stop its work as the security situation has worsened beyond acceptable thresholds. Vulnerable groups — including newborns, severely wounded patients, and chronically ill individuals — are now deprived of essential care.
This suspension comes amid large-scale military operations that began on August 11 under the name “Operation Gideon’s Chariots 2,” combining ground incursions, heavy aerial and artillery bombardment, home demolitions, and forced displacement.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. backing, has been conducting what international human rights organizations describe as genocide in Gaza. According to the latest official figures, 65,549 Palestinians have been killed, 167,518 injured, the vast majority women and children; 442 Palestinians have died of starvation and malnutrition, including 147 children.
MSF has issued additional warnings in recent months that malnutrition and hunger in Gaza have reached unprecedented levels. In its clinics in Al-Mawasi (southern Gaza) and Gaza City, the number of people with severe and moderate acute malnutrition has dramatically increased — including over 700 pregnant and breastfeeding women and nearly 500 children currently enrolled in therapeutic feeding programs. In the Gaza City clinic alone, reported cases nearly quadrupled in fewer than two months.

MSF has also stated that 1 in 4 young children and pregnant women screened in their clinics are now malnourished. The organization accuses Israeli authorities of deliberately withholding food and water and of using starvation as a weapon of war.
